The Precollegiate Programs 2016 Summer Academies poster is a mailer piece sent out to schools and community organizations for students to apply for the Oklahoma State Regents summer academies. The poster lists all the summer courses offered, a description of each course, how to apply, and a registration form. Precollegiate Programs asked for a poster that was family-friendly and readable and informed me that the audience were the parents of students who were eligible to attend, approximately 8th through 12th grades. I wanted to focus on the importance of STEAM, so the aesthetic of this poster was based on the patterned background I designed specifically for this project. The background is a variety of icons including magnets, rockets, books, paint brushes, nebulas, and rulers. I chose colors that were bright, fun, and gender-neutral, that wouldn’t come off as too childish for middle- and high-schoolers, and I chose a font family that was easy to read whether it was hung up in the classroom or sitting in a pile of mail. This mailer piece was a success in conveying the information to kids and parents alike, and Precollegiate Programs were thrilled with the final product.
